"...art and creativity are essential building blocks for later learning. I, personally, have witnessed this first hand. Bringing art into a classroom or zoo or aquarium experience gives childrenand adultsnew references that can make them more receptive to learning. It can give them an imaginative experience that reveals new information." Artist Wyland, Communiqué Magazine, November 2005 Science learning takes an artistic turn in our newest Aquarium Adventure for young children from 3 to 7 years old. Join us as we explore the Aquarium through the eyes of different artists and discover the beauty of the ocean. Our program begins with our exhibits, where kids will see how fish live and behave in their homes. We'll use basic science principles to analyze the many shapes, colors, and designs of fish before moving to the art room where kids will have a chance to make their own artwork based on what they've seen. Each child will have an opportunity to talk about their project at the end of the program. As the art projects dry, you and your child will have an early-bird opportunity to explore the Aquarium. Model Magic Doodles(Sept. 13 and Nov. 8)Children will learn about fish in the Aquarium, and, based on what they learn, create an imaginary fish with Crayola's Model Magic.Bryant Doodles(Sept. 27 and Dec. 13)Laura Bryant is an illustrator, whose work, including Where Fish Go in Winter, is known for its bright colors and simple lines. Children will learn about the kelp forest, and create an artsy kelp forest.Calder Doodles(Oct. 11 and Nov. 22)Alexander Calder is a sculptor and artist who is most famous for inventing mobiles. Using wire and beads, children will manipulate and create artistic sculptures of their own.Wyland Doodles(Oct. 25 and Dec. 27)Wyland, the "Ocean artist," is most famous for his murals and his leadership in ocean conservation. Children will learn about whales, and use beginner shapes and curved lines to draw a whale.Reservations
