A Milestone Birth
We’re thrilled to announce that a stranded sea otter reared as a pup by one of our exhibit sea otters two years ago, then released to the wild, has given birth to a pup of her own—the first for a surrogate-reared animal in the history of the aquarium’s groundbreaking Sea Otter Research and Conservation (SORAC) program.
The male pup, now about four months old, is strong and healthy and developing normally. And the surrogate-reared mother seems to be handling first-time motherhood very well. SORAC staff will continue to monitor the pair’s behavior and the pup’s development.
